First Day, New Blog

Alright!  After my failed attempt at blogging a few weeks ago, I'm ready to put more effort into it.  It's either I have too much time or not enough, but that seems to be the way life is, mostly not enough.  ANYWAYS, this is what's new (I'll get into details later):

1.  No more Xyrem.  That $#*! was becoming a serious problem.  For those of you who don't know, Xyrem is a medication from Jazz Pharmaceuticals to help treat Narcolepsy.  It's legal sodium oxybate - aka GHB - aka one of the "date rape" drugs, and it's supposed to help you sleep better at night AND stay awake during the day.  Long story short, it was most definitely NOT helping in any way at night.  After coming off, I definitely felt a difference during the day.  I felt more sluggish than usual, but that may have been the withdrawal effects.

2.  I've finally been gaining some weight!  This is very good news.  I've always been on the skinny side, but ever since being diagnosed with Narcolepsy, the medication has been making it very difficult to eat.  I went from 155 to a low point of 127 in a few months, losing 10 pounds in the first week or so.  Nuvigil/Ritalin/Adderall/Xyrem were destroying my appetite.  My doctors/nutritionist were finally able to help this by upping my Remeron to 30 mg a night.  So far it's helped and I've been eating a good bit more.  I'm around 133-135 right now.

3.  I got my PEB results back.  Because of my condition, I was put on a Medical/Physical Evaluation Board to see if I would continue service in the Marine Corps.  After months since it was started (middle of May timeframe) I got the call I've been waiting for.  The decision made?  Medical retirement.  What I have left is accept the findings, check out and go home.  That's it.  Very exciting.

Well that's mostly it.  I'll be updating and posting more frequently, expanding on what's been talked about and more.  Time to go get some more food for my fat ass :)
